Snoozo carries a leaf letter while Zippy joins their pretend jungle post game.

Snoozo and Zippy were playing jungle post. Snoozo carried a leaf letter for Dad. “Special delivery!” he said. His moon cushion waited on the porch. Even postmen needed a rest.

Talk together: Pretend to deliver a leaf letter with your hand. Say “Here you are!” Point to Snoozo’s feet and knees.

Snoozo sits after a small tumble, points to his sore knee and calls Mum while Zippy stays nearby.

His foot caught a root. He stumbled and scraped his knee. “Ouch!” Snoozo sat still. His eyes filled with tears. Zippy stopped playing. “Mum!” called Snoozo. “I have an ouchy!”

Talk together: Point to Snoozo’s knee in the picture. Who does he call for help? Practise “Please help me” together.

Mum explains the word ouchy and asks Snoozo to show her where it hurts.

Mum knelt beside him. “Ouchy is a little word people use for something that hurts,” she said. “A bump or a scrape can hurt. Can you show me where it hurts?”

Talk together: Grown-up: explain that “ouchy” is an informal word for a hurt. A hurt does not always leave a visible mark. Help your child name a grown-up they trust.
