Dad packs plates, cups and napkins for the family picnic.

Dad packed cups, plates and a mountain of napkins. “Everything is ready!” he said. The family followed him outside. Snoozo carried one cup. Zippy carried an extremely important empty plate.

Talk together: Point to a cup and a plate. Pretend to pass a plate and say “Here you are.”

Dad discovers that the picnic rug is missing and the grass is wet.

The grass was wet. Dad opened the basket. Cups. Plates. Napkins. No picnic rug. His ears drooped. “We cannot sit here,” said Zippy. Snoozo looked at Dad, then at the dry porch.

Talk together: What is missing? Point to the dry porch. How might Dad feel?

Page 3

Dad admits that he forgot the rug and Snoozo points to the porch.

“I forgot the rug,” Dad said. “I was so busy packing napkins. I am sorry. Can you help me fix our picnic?” Snoozo pointed behind them. “Our porch could be a café!”

Talk together: Grown-up: model “I forgot. Can you help?” What did Dad do after noticing his mistake?
