Tara holds a sunflower seed over a pot of soil while Dad guides her and Pip watches in their sunny garden.

Pip, the little blue bird, found a sunflower seed. “A giant surprise in a tiny package!” chirped Pip. Tara and her dad brought a pot of soil. Grown-up: enjoy this screen garden together. Guide any real planting and wash hands afterward; seeds and garden plants are not for tasting.

Talk together: Say “seed” and “soil”. Where will the seed go?

Page 2

Dad helps Tara water the soil gently while Pip shelters beneath a little leaf umbrella.

“Is our seed thirsty?” asked Tara. Dad helped her give the soil a gentle drink. Pip held a leaf like a tiny umbrella. “Drip, drop! Just a little, not a flood!”

Talk together: Say “water”. Describe a gentle little splash.

Dad chooses a bright spot for the sunflower pot as Tara watches and Pip spreads his wings in the sunlight.

Dad chose a bright spot for the sunflower pot. “Our plant will need sunlight as it grows,” he said. Pip spread his blue wings in the warm light. “Can I be a sunflower too?” Tara giggled.

Talk together: Say “sunlight”. Which place has light?
