Snoozo whispers through a cardboard tube and Zippy listens.

Snoozo held a cardboard tube to his mouth. “Hello,” he whispered. His voice came out at the other end. Zippy leaned closer. “A tiny koala!” she cried. “There is someone living inside!”

Talk together: Make a soft “Hello.” Where do you think the sound came from? It is fine to make a guess.

Page 2

Zippy covers the tube to protect an imaginary tiny koala, so the sound stops.

Zippy took the tube and covered one end. “Stay safe, little koala!” The voice stopped. Snoozo held out his paw. “I was using that.” Zippy frowned. Why had her tiny friend gone quiet?

Talk together: How could Zippy check her guess? Grown-up: model “Can I ask you?”

Zippy asks about the voice and Snoozo shows that it comes from him.

Zippy lowered the tube. “Was that your voice?” she asked. “Yes,” said Snoozo, pointing to his mouth. “I was saying hello.” Zippy listened. “Oh! I made a big guess about a very little koala.”

Talk together: Point to Snoozo’s mouth. Say “I can hear you.” What did Zippy find out by asking?
