Snoozo and Zippy discover a shallow puddle near their jungle home.

The rain stopped. A little puddle shone beside the jungle path. “A boat race!” said Zippy. Snoozo yawned. “Could it be a slow boat race?”

Talk together: Point to the little puddle. Move one finger slowly across your lap. Say “Slow, slow, slow.”

Snoozo puts a tiny rolled-leaf pillow in a broad leaf boat while Zippy watches.

Snoozo found a wide leaf. He put a tiny rolled leaf inside. “A pillow for my boat,” he said. Zippy giggled. “Boats do not have naps!”

Talk together: Find the big leaf and the little leaf. Grown-up: say “A leaf boat.” What pretend thing would you put in yours?

The little leaf boat floats still on the puddle as the koala children watch from dry ground.

They put the leaf boat in the shallow puddle. It floated. It waited. It did not go. “Perhaps it is sleepy,” said Snoozo.

Talk together: Hold your palm flat like a little boat. Grown-up: model “My boat can float.” What might help it move?
